Q: What is a Seventh Day Baptist Church? A: A Seventh Day Baptist Church is a Bible-believing church that meets on Saturdays. Q: How is it different from other Baptist churches? A: Like other Baptists, we believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and that the Bible is the inspired word of God. However, we believe we should meet on the seventh day, Saturday, in obedience to God’s commandment to remember the Sabbath. Q: What is the Sabbath? A: The beginning of Genesis tells us that after God created the heavens and earth, He rested on the seventh day. Exodus 20:8 gives us number four of the Ten Commandments: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." Q: Why is it important to keep the Sabbath? A: I John 5:2 says, "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments." The fourth commandment is the only one that asks us to remember something, yet it is the most often forogtten one. We believe we should obey this one, just as we do the commandments not to murder or steal. Q: Will keeping the Sabbath save me? A: No. Only faith in Jesus Christ, that He died for your sins and defeated death by His resurrection, can provide salvation. Keeping the Sabbath will not get you into heaven, just as not keeping it will not keep you from heaven. Q: Why should I go to church? A: If you are a believer, is it important to meet with other Christians regularly so that you can learn and be encouraged. If you are not sure where you stand spiritually, coming to church can answer the questions you have, explain the Bible to you, and help you better understand the Lord. Q: Do you really believe only Christians get into Heaven? A: Yes--but here’s the thing: salvation is open and available to all. God isn’t being cruel by not allowing everyone into heaven, because He offers the free gift of grace to everyone. All you have to do to receive it is believe on His Word--the Bible. Q: I’ve tried reading the Bible, but I find it hard to understand--what do I do? A: The Bible is a complex book, written by many hands but all inspired by the Lord. Understanding it is a lifelong endeavor, but if you are truly seeking the Lord, then you can pray for Him to open His word to you, and you’ll begin to understand it better and better. Coming to church is also a great way to have the Word opened to you; that gives you the benefit of the years of study others have put into it. Q: Are all churches the same? A: No. Most Christian churches share the same core beliefs, but there are some that do not teach the Bible. In selecting a church, you must be careful to pick one that has a strong foundation in the Scriptures. |
